In a few days, specifically on April 19, Telefónica will close the entire copper network and the blackout that has been underway for so many years will be complete. Therefore, the ADSL connection is over, an old technology that has been widely surpassed by fiber optics, which, however, is still in use. According to the CNMC, 440,000 people continue to use ADSL and are about to lose their connection. Some will do so sooner, others will do so later, but it will eventually happen.
What options do those users who now run the risk of being disconnected have? Let’s see.
Fiber does not reach everywhere. Although in an ideal world we would all have high-speed fiber, the truth is that there is 10.03% of the surface area in Spain that fiber optics has not yet reached. When a migration is made, 96% is made to fiber and, when this is not possible, Internet is offered by satellite or mobile radio. These are, precisely, the alternative options available.
